  It all depends on who you see. I was with one physician's assistant for a few years for issues with my neck and back (among other things), and was very happy with him, as he wanted an answer as badly as I did. I moved away for 4 years and then came back home, excited to show him that, while I was gone, I had received a diagnosis for the issues I had been having since I first started seeing him. He basically didn't believe me and treated me like a drug seeker. I went to the ER at one point because I couldn't walk: they gave me a narcotic pain reliever, and although it did help the pain a little bit, he was very upset about it and told me how 'against narcotics' he was. Well, I understand there's a lot of hype around the stuff but at some point or another, SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE is going to need a narcotic pain medication. Hope they don't go to him. He said he wanted an MRI, and after he got the results, said it was a little bit of arthritis and some disc degeneration (I'm in my early 20's) and that it's not a big deal. Looking for a second opinion, I saw the real doctor in this office, Dr. Shoenthal. He immediately wrote me for an MRI of my neck. When he got the results back, he said that it was a slightly big deal and referred me to a specialist. Fed up with the wishy-washiness of this office, I got a 'third opinion' if you will, by Dr. Yinkey in Bedford. Multilevel Degenerative Disc Disease, A spur in my back and Arthritis. I now receive regular, NON NARCOTIC treatments and am on a path to managing my pain with my new doctor. I feel very strongly that, because of the new FDA regulations surrounding narcotics and abuse of prescription medicine, Dr. Shoenthal's physician's assistants are risking the health and wellbeing of their patients by avoiding a diagnosis that would require them to treat pain. My PA would do anything in his power to have me believe that my pain was all in my head- and that's not what a healthcare provider should do. If you're considering this office, I suggest seeing the only ACTUAL doctor in the office: Dr. Shoenthal. He's the only one who, I felt, was genuinely concerned about my well-being.
